The music is a-changin’
April 10, 2008 by Juan Zelada
Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’.
Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again
And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who
That it’s namin’.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’.
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin’.
It’ll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’.
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin’.
Please get out of the new one
If you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’.
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin’.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’.

My friend,
I am still looking at this new post! The amount of references is quite impressive!
As soon as I have read through it all I will try and get back, but for now (allow me: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=SIyivjVpMDs) that’s all I have!
PS: Hope you like the music that I linked!
find more on that guy, I suppose you have heard of him, but check him out: http://www.myspace.com/jamiecullum
wow…I am impressed. Thanks for adding me to your blogroll.
Hey, thanks for the comments. The thing is I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately on the future of music and the effect the Internet is having on old music models. Music 2.0, the social web and all that. As I kept reading I had this constant idea of “change” in my head, so I thought I would talk about change and how people who are capable of changing are the ones that succeed. Then as I was writing the post, I thought about Dylan’s song and I started to see that he was much better at communicating a message in a poetic way. Amazing how up to date the song is still.
The whole music revolution that’s happening now is about change. Some people are changing very fast (web 2.0) and others are resisting change (music industry). To sum it up I will quote someone important to make me look good… it’s a great quote though:
“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power”.
Hey Juan,
great material as always. I love this post because as you say it still is so up to date. Concerning the music industry you couldn’t be more right, everything is changing and those resisting this change will be left behind. You can fight a raging torrent. Music 2.0 is the future model for musician. It means that the technology behind communication is so important, so strong that that is what the industry must capitalize on. Bands aren’t taking it for granted and I find that your approach is very welcome and others should take it as an example. Your trying to be as active as possible on that front and I congratulate you for that.
Mruff to you man
